Food for thought...

We tend to hoot and holler a lot about the 2nd amendment but how often do we ACTUALLY equate it to other civil rights? I know i sometimes hear things like, "the 2nd protects the first" but why don't you see the ACLU jumping up to defend issues that have anything to do with 2A (rhetorical question)?

I'm occasionally asked what sorts of things are important to me and I tend to reply, "I'm a bit of a civil rights nut". Imagine if we went after people's rights to not testify against one's self, or gender equality or racial equality... All these vultures jump on Charleton Heston like he was Hitler reincarnated but fail to recognize that he was marching hand in hand with Martin Luther King at rallies back in the 60's - literally. Heston jumped on the gun rights bandwagon not because he was some kind of uber-conservative but because he viewed it as a threat to fundemental civil liberties, right up there with "all men are created equal".

There are so few groups out there that defend 2A purely on the basis of human rights. There are a few groups of women or Jews that do, but where are the rest?

Just some thoughts rolling around in the old noggin lately. I'm sure there are more of you that'd like to toss in your $.02
- A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government strong enough to take everything you have. - Thomas Jefferson
- Meat is murder... tasty, tasty murder. - a really sweet t-shirt
- Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for yourself.
